The settlement is created after the Revolution of 1821. Its population now days is 1802 inhabitants. The territory of the Community is estimated to be 4.900 hectares. The economy of Monastiraki is based mainly on the agriculture, espscially cattlebreeding. The main agricultural products of the region are: corn, wheat, barley, oats rye, maize, tobacco and clover. Within the secondary sector there are some olive-pressing works, cheese-making daires, some wood-processing works and the company of production of mineral water "KORPI", who employs 110 persons.
Monastiraki is a pitoresque settlement of 818 small tile roofed buildings on the slope of "Perganti" mountain. A river seems to setting from the village center roling towards the lower part of the settlement. In the area of Monastiraki we can find the Byzantine temple of "Pantocrator" and the post-Byzantine historical monastery of "Romvi".
Byzantine Temple of Pantocratoris the main temple of a monastery complex dedicated to Pantocrator. We can distinguish two main periods on the monument, although ancient and contemporary elements coexist: a) the late Byzantine era and b) the era of Ottoman ryle. Today one can enjoy the painted iconostasis and some frescos.
The "Romvi Monastery" is dedicated to the birth of Virgin Maria and is located on the slope of Acarnania mountains.
Korpi settlement is located 2 Km away from the Monastiraki center and is developed around the homonymous spring. Next to the settlement we can find the water drilling and processing installations of the mineral water "KORPI" production company. The "KORPI" bottled water occupies the second place in the greek mineral water market.
